Intensive Therapy Days are an alternative to meeting for an hour per week aka traditional talk therapy.
Intensive sessions are longer sessions, in which we work on a particular issue in a focused way, and generally we meet fewer times in total.
The main therapy modality used in Intensive work is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) but other models and techniques are included when indicated.
Why choose an Intensive Therapy Day?
- Are you feeling like something profound needs to change, but you’re not quite sure how or where to start? Maybe you have a rational understanding of your situation, and what you want to be different, but you keep getting caught in old patterns.
- Perhaps you’ve been meaning to get into weekly therapy for a while now, but competing demands make the idea of regular therapy appointments feel more overwhelming than supportive.
- Perhaps you need change FAST and you don’t want to spend months in traditional weekly therapy to feel better.
Could intensive therapy be right for you?
Like any therapy, there are people for whom Intensive therapy might be particularly well suited:
- If you focused on resolving a specific problem/ issue as soon as possible
- Your life circumstances make it difficult to access therapy weekly
- You really like the idea of working with me, but you live too far away to drive here for an hour session each week
- You like the idea of taking time away for yourself, to focus on healing
Essentially, working intensively will allow you to experience accelerated understanding, healing and resolution, leaving you ready and motivated to move forwards in your life with satisfaction and confidence.
Some things that can prevent Intensive Therapy being a good fit include:
- If you are so low or distressed that you are regularly and actively engaging in self-harm or feeling suicidal.
- You are experiencing regular and uncontrollable distressing symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares or panic attacks.
- You don’t currently have access to a steady, supportive and safe environment/ family or system to return to after treatment.
